Factors that will affect the leather
surface of your sofa:
- Climatic Environment
Climate plays an important part in determining how to care for leather. If
you live in a humid area, you will need a strong cleaner to remove excess
perspiration and body oils. In drier climates, you will need to use
moisturisers more often.
- Dust, Dirt and Pet Hair
Dust, dirt and pet hair will cut into the surface of the leather if
it is not regularly removed.
- Natural Body Oils
Natural body oils can stain and sometimes
discolour leather if allowed to settle into the surface. Particular care is
required if the owner is using medication as this can appear in the body
oils.
- Direct Sunlight
Direct sunlight will fade and dry out
leather, especially anilines.
- Direct Air Vents
Direct air vents (both hot and cold) will
accelerate the drying out of the leather, causing cracking.
- Do Not Wash
Do not dry clean. Do not remove any part
for separate cleaning.
- Dye Fast Cloth
When spot cleaning, avoid the use of dyed cloths
unless you are sure it is dye-fast when wet.
- Sharp Objects
Avoid sharp objects (buckles, jewellery, keys,
pet claws etc) near your furniture.
