New Image Upholstery (niu) was established in 1998 by brothers Nikita and Chris Ballas. Soon afterwards they were joined by the experienced cutter/machinist Samira who "runs the show" as the workshop manager. She is an expert in all aspects of upholstery and soft furnishings. Her specialties: Tailor made slip covers and custom made cushions.

The niu team of upholsterers combines an extensive experience with specialty knowledge in all areas of upholstery and re-upholstery. The senior upholsterer, Alexander Raile has 43 years of experience, specialising in traditional upholstery including diamond buttoning. The other niu upholsterers have a minimum of 20 years experience both in traditional and in modern methods of upholstery. There is also an in-house French polisher and antique restorer.
